Where Does My Digital Camera Power Come From?

November 12th, 2008 · No Comments

What is the source of digital camera power is a million dollar question. Diplomatically speaking, digital camera power is derived from the solar energy. This is not likely to satisfy the curiosity of most people though. To be more specific, digital camera power is obtained from a small rechargeable battery that is located inside the digital camera. There are numerous ways to recharge this power; however, the most accepted method of recharging is done via USB port. The moment you connect your digital camera with your computer to upload the pictures, power is transmitted into the tiny rechargeable battery inside your camera via the cable. This fully recharged battery has the potential to carry out all kinds of functions of the digital camera.

Question may arise as to how this mini rechargeable battery carries out its function. Well, the fact is that lithium ion battery plays the key role in generating the digital camera power. The lithium ion battery is widely used in digital cameras and other electrical appliances due to three reasons: -
1. First of all, these batteries are very light in weight as compared to the quantity of power they can hold.
2. Secondly, lithium ion batteries do not possess a recharge memory, which means that they can be fully recharged every time without picking up a memory of the residual charge.
3. Thirdly, these digital camera batteries do not lose much of a charge when not in use. This can be of great help to the customers as the digital camera is not used for a considerable length of time and they are more often than not kept idle.

The anode and cathode are the two main constituents of the lithium ion batteries which remains dipped in the electrolyte solution. Lithium ions move towards the cathode from the anode while discharging and the opposite path while recharging. As a result of this mechanism it is easy to predict the constancy and output of the digital camera power of a lithium ion battery.

People often tend to confuse lithium ion batteries with lithium batteries. While lithium batteries are unable to produce any power, lithium ion batteries play the pivotal role in the generation of digital camera power. No other batteries invented so far have been proved to be as efficient in generating power as lithium ion batteries.
By now you must have got a proper view of digital camera power and the mechanism in which it works. However, this was just the introduction and much more still remains to be explained. In case you want to know more on this subject, you can go through various books on electricity and power generation in the library to find out more about digital camera power.
